Riviera Holiday

A fun new travel design celebrating the azure water and beautiful beaches of the French Riviera. This watercolor painting was created to compliment the theme of the 2020 Philadelphia Flower Show. For more information click here.

The Wonders of Water Design

The Wonders of Water theme for the 2018 Philadelphia Flower show was a bit of a visual challenge for me in creating a design! How do you encapsulate such a broad theme with so many important qualities. Thankfully I learned that the main entrance garden would be based on a Rainforest and that is where I gained my inspiration including a waterfall, topical flowers and birds, butterflies, an explorer and WHAT? A mermaid? Don’t you just love artistic license?

The little merbunny was so sweet that she needed to be on center stage also. I love the serene quality of this simple design. For ordering information on either design, click HERE.

Snow day at the Philadelphia Flower Show

Once again we are getting bombarded with snow here in Philadelphia. This seems to happen every year lately. Hard to believe that Junebug and I have been minding the booth for 12 years! What a gift. It’s so lovely seeing old friends and making new ones. I have the BEST customers. I thought it would be fun to share some photos from the show for those of you who weren’t able to come or would like to know what it is about!

The main entrance garden was alive with color and sounds from the Rainforest. Orchids and tropical flowers took the main stage with bamboo structures and numerous sources of water- including ponds, waterfalls, fountains and rain barrels.

One of my favorite displays was a wooded garden setting for a wedding. It was just lovely and magical!!

Isn’t it just dreamy?? I think there could be gnomes and fairies hiding about. Stop by again tomorrow for highlights of other sections of the show! : )

It’s Almost Show Time!

It is a cold, snowy, blustery day here today. The birds are huddling around the feeders and I see snowmobilers scooting across the trail down in back.

Before I know it the family and I will be packing up the trailer and heading to Philadelphia for the Flower Show. Can’t wait. The colors, the creativity, the happy thoughts of spring and the smell of fresh dirt and mulch. From the PHS website “Holland: Flowering the World will showcase the extraordinary plants, creativity and talent of this region’s top horticulturists and designers along with award winning landscape and floral designers from the Netherlands.

The Flower Show is a top destination and “must experience” horticultural event, attracting 250,000 visitors annually to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, a showcase of excellence that dates back to 1829.

From towering windmills, wooden shoes and delectable cheeses, to the whimsical bicycles, canals and vibrant tulip fields of the iconic Dutch landscape, the 2017 Flower Show will share the diverse stories of horticulture, innovative eco-design, and modern urban greening and sustainability efforts of the Netherlands.”

Count me in. My design for this year’s theme features the Hedges & Hares team happily pedaling alongside a canal with an Amsterdam-ish hedge of row houses in the background. A sweet narrative available on a variety of items to take along as souvenirs/gifts from the show. The new design will be available online as well. For more information on attending the show click here. I’ll be set up in the Marketplace- Booth Z-1002.  Hope to see you there!

Highlights from the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show

IMG_1002Lights, Camera, Bloom! The theme this year was Celebrating the Movies and well, the world’s #1 event did not disappoint. The partnership of PHS with Disney/Pixar produced quite a spectacle with a lot of WOW factor. I was very happy to see so many young families walking through the show… starting the tradition. Many customers that I spoke with had grown up attending the show and this year had brought along their own children.

Now, the whole princess thing can be a bit much I know and I was concerned when I heard all of the movies represented were Disney… but the displays were so creative, sophisicated and artful.

Enjoyed Burke Brothers design… they incorporated real chickens who where quite a hit.

IMG_1048

This garden was my favorite, I think. The Mulan inspired garden.

IMG_1050

It was sublime.

IMG_1052  IMG_1054Loved the ceramic fish swimming above the pond and in and out of the irises.

IMG_1055  IMG_1057How gorgeous is that?! Can’t I do something like this on my deck?

IMG_1058

Mustn’t forget Never Never Land and the Lost Boys.

IMG_1059

Do you see Hook’s hat? Tinkerbell was in there too!

IMG_1061

Lots of orchids.

IMG_1063This design was so creative and the photos won’t do it justice. Imagine that the rope line in the photo is the line from a boat with an anchor at the other end. The vertical beams are a dock and we have an underwater view with the fish swimming by. Clever, right? J Downend Landscaping did the design based on the movie Nemo.

IMG_1065

Do you see the fishing boat at the top with the oar?

IMG_1067

A Winnie-the-Pooh inspired landscape. Very sweet. Made me think of the Bean.

This landscape was based on the original Parent Trap movie. Loved that film.

2014 Jr League Holiday Shoppes

holidayshoppelogo375

Getting ready to load my trailer for the show! What a busy time of year. I do enjoy kicking off the Holidays at this show. It is usually where I hear my first Christmas music for the season. It always makes me want to come home and pull out my Holiday piano music and start playing!

Treble-Guest-Towel_LRG

I will have lots of topiary themed gifts for the people on your list. The monogrammed guest towels are perfect hostess gift as well as gifts for garden club members.

Teacher Bunny

I love “the Fundaments” topiary design for elementary school teachers. The design comes in blank notecards, lavender sachets as well as 8 x 10 matted/framed prints. Too sweet!

Mushroom Topiary WM

My newest Hedges & Hares topiary design “Book Club” would make a charming gift for your book club members… a set of notecards or a bookmark.

Irish Setter Garden Portrait

Don’t forget, linen hemstitched lavender sachets and blank notecard sets make lovely stocking stuffers for the dog lover in the family. Who doesn’t want to see their favorite dog stretched out on a hedgey topiary piece of furniture for a unique and whimsical garden portrait?
